2020 Summary – month by month

2020 Summary – month by month

I think that we all agree that 2020 has been one of the most challenging years in our lives. This is why I felt like sharing some positive events that happened throughout the year. Personally, 2019 was also very tough for me, but I managed to always find the bright side of things. Always focus on what this specific event has taught you, how did you grow mentally and physically, and what did you achieve. Because at the end, it’s all that matters.

Before starting my 2020 overview, I would like to wish everyone a wonderful new year. Stay healthy and positive and remember, nothing is a failure: everything is a lesson.

January

I’d lie if I said that 2020 didn’t start well. I spent New Year’s Eve with the person I love on a bridge in Bangkok, watching the fireworks all over the city. It was definitely unique. After a tough 2019 year, I took a 3-week vacation and flew to Thailand, a country that I cherish very much.

I discovered the Northern part of the country, did a cooking class, met some amazing people, and rested on the beach,

February

February is the birthday month of mine but this year was different. I think I spent one of the worst birthdays in my entire life. But, my boyfriend offered me a trip to New York and this is definitely the positive event I will remember. It was my first time discovering New York during Winter Time and I’m forever grateful that I managed to fly to the US before the pandemic hit Europe.

March

In March, many things happened. I started a new job in the hospitality industry and moved places. Together with my boyfriend, we finally found a place that we love and that we could furnish from scratch. The beginning of the quarantine was also a time for us to slow down our busy rhythm and refocus on what’s important.

April

April was all about enjoying the beautiful weather in Amsterdam from my sunny terrace, cooking and baking amazing food, and spending Easter for the first time without my family. Moreover, we started spending a lot of time buying the right furniture and choosing the right style for our apartment.

May

In May, we were supposed to fly to Naples for my boyfriend’s birthday. Instead, we ordered amazing food and spent the night in. In May, we also spent a lot of time outside, cycling in the city

June

In June, life started to “get back to normal” and we started going out to bars and restaurants. I also spent a weekend in Brussels to celebrate my best friend’s birthday and to see my family. Some of my friends and family also came to Amsterdam to visit. It felt so good to be around people I love.

July

In July, my sister came over to Amsterdam with her boyfriend and we enjoyed the city together. Moreover, as every year, we celebrated our anniversary with Pariss and had dinner in a special place. This year, we opted for Restaurant Mos, a one-star Michelin restaurant located in the Northern part of the city. It was absolutely delicious and unforgettable.

August

In August, Pariss and I finally packed our bags and spent a week in Spain to rest and enjoy the Spanish sun and food. Sevilla is a city we absolutely both love and it felt really good.

September

September was quite quiet. We enjoyed some nights outside, we ate out and enjoyed the Indian Summer. The coronavirus was slowly coming back so we started being careful again.

October

October is the month when restaurants closed again in Amsterdam. We enjoyed some last dinners outside. I also surprised my boyfriend with a night in the 5-star Dylan hotel in Amsterdam. 2020 marks 10 years since we first met at a party. 10 years later, I’m so proud and grateful for what we have achieved together.

End of the year

The end of the year was quite sad again but we said we would focus on the positive right?

I took the time to focus on what really matters to me: what are my personal goals for the coming year, what do I want to focus on and achieve?

I also took the time to enjoy some long walks in the park and some delicious oliebollen in the city (if you know, you know).

I truly hope that the coming year will bring more positivity into my life despite the fact that I know that the covid-19 virus will not disappear just like that. I really want to spend more time with the people I love, celebrate my best friend’s wedding and be able to travel again.

Wishin you all the best,
x
Claudia
